IEP is kicking off the 2020 conference season by exhibiting at AIEA in Washington, D.C., as well as the Forum on Education Abroad. Conferences provide connection with colleagues and insight on the latest trends impacting our industry. Whether you’re a conference veteran or a newbie, check out our guide to successful conference preparation. Additionally, we’ve listed upcoming conferences and IEP’s suggestions on who should attend.
Successful Conference Prep
Before investing in any conference, consider the following:
- What is my main goal or priority?
- What campus/company initiative will my conference attendance support?
- Am I the right person to attend? Is another colleague better suited?
- Does my colleague/team have clear goals related to their conference attendance?
- How will I share my knowledge from the conference?
2020 Conferences & Suggested Attendees
AIEA: February 16-19, 2020 in Washington, D.C.
We recommend using this conference as an opportunity to get your SIO and/or Provost more actively involved in the industry. This is the perfect chance to gain their support and connect them to the work occurring in our industry.
Diversity Abroad: March 14-17, 2020: New Orleans, Louisiana
This conference is ideal for staff who are directly connected to student populations and engage with them daily. (think advisors) Participants will walk away with key ideas and initiatives to increase participation in diverse groups on campus.
Forum on Education Abroad: March 23-25, 2020: Kansas City, Missouri
If you have a limited budget we recommend sending along any A+ players on your team whom are at the Associate Director and or Senior Management level!
NAFSA: May 24-29, 2020: St. Louis, Missouri
If your office supports both outbound and inbound mobility this conference provides connection with EA organizations, as well as overseas partners in one location. We recommend sending senior staff who can maximize the opportunities such as securing or renegotiating larger agreements with your partners.
